Refined ears, renewed self-esteem.
Otoplasty is the surgical procedure used to correct prominent ears.
While often performed for aesthetic reasons in adults, this procedure also plays an important role in helping children adjust more easily as they grow.
Children with protruding ears are frequently subject to ridicule, struggle with social integration at school, and may develop low self-esteem. Otoplasty offers a long-term solution that can significantly improve confidence and quality of life.
The procedure involves a small incision behind the ear, allowing the surgeon to reshape the cartilage and reposition the ear closer to the head, thereby reducing its prominence.
This operation does not affect hearing and is performed under local anesthesia.
It is most commonly carried out in children between the ages of 4 and 14.
No special preoperative preparation is required.
Postoperative recovery
Recovery involves wearing a retroauricular dressing until the stitches are removed (14 days), during which time the patient cannot wash their hair.
After 1–2 weeks, both children and adults can resume social activities.
The scar is small, located behind the ear, and will gradually fade over time.
